The American frontier and backcountry is a place of endless historic inquiry. To many it was a place of violence, where the power of law and the reach of authority were weak. To others it is the stage upon which great historic romances were played out. To most historians, the frontier is a very from these popular images – it was a place of complex interactions between peoples, place, and culture. In this collection of lectures, seminars, and discussions, I hope to introduce you to some of the backcountry’s fascinating history. You do not have to have a degree to appreciate these free lectures, just a desire to learn something new.
