A couple of blogs ago you may remember me mentioning my plans to begin a new podcast series exploring the American frontier. Happily, I can now announce that the first episodes of that series are now available for you to listen to right now with many more being planned for the coming weeks and months. Welcome to The Frontier Historian podcast and lecture series!

In this series I hope to introduce listeners to the world of early America and, in particular, the country’s frontier. With this series I hope to give non-experts a chance to learn about what is, in my opinion, one of the most fascinating aspect of American history. I want to emphasise that you don’t need to be an expert in any particular field – this series has been designed to teach listeners with a desire to learn something new about my own research field. In the first part of my series I will be exploring the life of legendary pioneer Daniel Boone, examining his own account of his exploits in order to strip away the myths that obscure the far more interesting historical figure. To give readers a chance to get the most out of this series I will be publishing the relevant part of Boone’s account alongside each new episode. Of course, you don’t have to read the extra material to appreciate this series but if you really want to learn about this subject – and how historians deal with first hand accounts and other documentary evidence – by all means read the extra resources that I make available on this website.
